New Exam Boards of GCSE / AL (+ASL) in UK....  since Sep 2000

Intro

There are lots of Education reform globally towards the 2000.   UK has been one of our curriculum models and many of our Subject Syllabuses had been adapted directly from those UK counterparts.

Originally there are 16 Examination Boards in UK.  Now they have merged that into three with the agreed reviewing of the standards -- they call "specifications" at both the GCSE and AL (include ASL) areas.

The AEB and the NEAB have now merged their identities into AQA. All information relating to the current AQA (AEB) and AQA (NEAB) syllabuses and examinations will remain and be updated on these AQA satellite sites.

The Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) is one of three unitary examining
bodies in England, formed in response to the previous government's 'Guaranteeing
Standards' consultation. It was launched as a joint venture company in November 1997
and registered as a charity on 30 September 1998. It brought together the Associated
Examining Board, the Northern Examinations and Assessment Board and the City and
Guilds' GNVQ qualification, which AQA acquired in autumn 1998. AQA was pleased to
announce in October 1999 that AEB and NEAB had agreed to merge. The merger took
place in early April 2000, thus completing the formation of the biggest English unitary
awarding body. AEB/SEG and NEAB bring into AQA their established GCSE and
GCE syllabuses, Entry level qualifications and other assessment schemes. All new
GCSE, GCE, GNVQ and other qualifications are being developed by AQA. AQA AS
and A level, GCSE and GNVQ specifications and syllabuses are studied by over
three-quarters of a million students in a wide range of centres across the country.
